More and more people use mobile devices to access online content, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is steadily growing. To fulfill this demand, the establishment that oversees the universal top-level extensions, ICANN, introduced the dot MOBI domain extension in 2005. The first registrations were enabled in September 2006, and the intention behind this TLD is that all websites that use it need to comply with special requirements. In other words, all .MOBI websites need to be created to be opened properly by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” formulated by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the .MOBI Registry. These have to do with how a site is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.

The restrictions have provoked some questions because the universal domain name extension is the only one that specifies what devices should be able to access a website and the way in which this needs to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a website should be built in such a way as to be opened by the majority of browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Given the fact that the .MOBI Registry organization does not register domains directly, you can book a dot MOBI domain with any 3rd-party company, such as ours.
